Carmen at the opera house directed by Domy Reiter-Soffer was unusually splendid and powerful. Full of exciting visuals not seen before and made the singers work effortlessly to the limits of their talents. Gillian Knight was excellent as Carmen controlled the whole stage with her presence and wonderful voice. Mary Hegarty as Michaela sang with clarity and musicality her duet with Enrico Di Guiseppe in the first act was glorious and moving. The production was designed by Patrick Murary who excelled himself with an inventive and skeletal set that was most effective.
Both John O'Flynn as Zuniga and Frank O'Brien as Morales Brought high standard of acting as well as singing.
It was indeed an evening of sheer delight and excitement.
