Land unconquered-Zagreb Contemporary Co.

"The Contemporary Dance Company's second programme at the Zagreb Opera House was dominated by the internationally known choreographer Domy Reiter Soffer who, with "Unconquered Land" to Vaughan Williams music, proved to be a choreographer of great expertise. An Artist who possesses a wide spectrum of skills in Ballet as well as in different facets of the Arts. Mr. Reiter Soffer astounds us with supernatural richness of choreographic movements thoughts and symbols and who, in the real sense of the word, exposes the subtleties and the whole beauty of modern ballet. Reiter Soffer selects movements that portrays deep emotions charged with eruptive strength and yet divine, soft and yielding. The ballet has completely succeeded to conjure up the vision of useless capture of the unconquered, the wish and strife of man, of hope, of love and eventual defeat. So many beautiful dancing sequences, so diverse in its expressive sense which, as a well conducted counterpoint, is joined in a strong unity of choreographic thought. Such choreography has precisely uncovered the level of accomplishments by the Contemporary dance company. They were able to conquer the most complex choreography, the clear extended legs in the adagio movement, high and unfailing jumps and most of all a smooth transitional movements that gave the performance width and plasticity. Such rare and beautiful yet romantic moments that captures the audience's senses. The firm expressiveness and technique of Zaga Zivkovic, Darko Kolar, Andria Labos and the outstanding Bosiljka Vujovic as the leader of the group full of vivacity and harmony. The choreography, costumes and the fantastic lighting added much to the atmosphere and made it an unforgettable experience for the audience. It was definitely the most important dance happening of the season in Zagreb.
