Bat Dor Dance Company's Contribution to Israel Festival was the exciting performance in the Jerusalem Theatre of "Out of the Depths" Choreography By Domy Reiter- Soffer Music by the Israeli Composer Zvi Avni, Based on the Psalm of David. In the beginning of the work there were groups of men moving in slow sweeping lyrical movements as if in deep meditation, while the females moved among the group in an interesting pattern that suggested personal wishes that is reflected through use of shawls and arm stretches.
Then the music becomes rhythmic and syncopated with interesting orchestration, and that's when the Ballet changes into a sharp extraordinary group work that covered the whole stage depicting anger, despair and eventual redemption.
There were many solos and duets, the company excelled and showed their expertise and technical ability to a superb impact. I can't but admire the constant interest the choreographer maintained throughout the work, so musical and full of surprises. The total effect was most satisfying and the audience reacted accordingly.
