Souvenirs

In Domy Reiter-Soffer's "Souvenirs" inspired by the music of Darius Milhaud's Saudades do Brazil the Bat Dor dance company got a winner. The Israeli choreographer (now internationally known) set his work in the 20's both in costumes and caper.

The treatment was funny and original very stylistic and full of humor. The stress was on slick, smooth ensemble, but each dancer had something to do. Lea Lichtenstein, Hannah Alex and Emy Edelstein were fetchingly feather- brained. Keith Barlow, Sam McMannus and Pierre Andre Morard were a droll and dexterous trio. It was understated fun which made all the different actions even funnier.

Yet the high points of comedy were with Jeannette Ordman and Keith Barlow, especially in their duet, brilliantly danced with just the right tongue and cheek tango of mockery. The choreography was naughty than the amiably nostalgic music, but the sly burlesque always had a polished edge and clever under tones, with much style and stamina.

A very entertaining ballet that made the audience rise to its feet with delight.

In the second half of the programme  at the Bat Dor Dance Company, we were presented with humorous new work by choreographer Domy reiter Soffer's "Souvenirs" To music by Darius Milhaud inspired by south American Rhythms in eight delightful sections very controlled and stylistic in nature. The work is well choreographed and each section was beautifully danced to different rhythms and different style accordingly. The Tango was elegant and sexy and exciting giving the  dancers the opportunity to shine. The Rumba- Samba was funny and energetic and choreographically tricky in the intricate changing Rhythms. The duet danced by Keith Barlow and Jeannette Ordman was Funny full of surprises and beautifully executed, with interesting movements lifts and innuendos.

The company's finale was splendid giving each and every dancer the opportunity to shine. It literally got the audience out of their seat with excitement with unusual use of music and Movement that made the end of the evening a delight.

"Souvnenirs" a Ballet choreographed by Domy Reiter Soffer for the Bat Dor Dance Company to Music by Darius Milhaud Saudades do Brazil was premiered last night to a Standing ovation. A work that brought nostalgia of period long forgotten by the young generation and a period even before the choreographers life time. Mostly 1920's dances and rhythms that the composer wrote influenced by his visit to south America.

The Ballet was expertly choreographed creating a style that is apt to the period but also inventive in ideas and movement, giving the dancers opportunity to shine whether it is in the beautiful sexy Tango or the Rumba-Samba and the final scene which was the delicious Conga with its intricate musical passages and movement gave the audience a wonderful send off.
