“ Miss Sorkin and Mr.Dunne gave a fantastic performances in the New York premiere of “Yerma” a ballet version of the Gracia Lorca play, choreographed by Domy Reiter-Soffer. Both Dancers of great intensity who know how to transmit that drama of a situation through their very sinews, and every sinew was put to work.
Mr. Reiter-Soffer has dispensed with any enlarged symbolism, focusing directly on the plight of the childless Spanish Heroin, whose barrenness is conveyed somewhat with arm rotations above the belly. There is an ensemble and effective set, yet there is tightness to the work and the true interest lies in the most effective duets for Miss Sorkin and Mr. Dunne as her unresponsive husband, for Miss Sorkin and
Mr. Cuevas as her lover, and in the violent close, in which Miss Sorkin appears Marvelously crazed, a true tour de force, and a powerful ballet”.

“Domy Reiter-Soffer is a dance maker who is not afraid to use dramatic material to the hilt- “Yerma” was based on Lorca play, set to George Crumb's Music it was proof again that Reiter-Soffer has an amazingly musical ear. All four principals were excellent, with Naomi Sorkin in the title role a tempest of wild emotions. The ballet is effective and inventive, ultimately very absorbing”.
