Yerma-La Scala, Milan

Last night was indeed an evening to remember at La Scala ballet performance of
“Yerma” choreographed by Domy Reiter-Soffer to George Crumb excellent score based on Fredrico Gracia Lorca play is one of the most exciting ballet La Scala Ballet have done in years. It gave Ballerina absoluta Luciana Savignano a role to remember and a tour de force that will stay with us, the audience for a long time. Her portrayal was moving and poignant, her exceptional technical feats and dramatic ability was astounding. A total dance theatre Piece choreographed in the most direct and dramatic way giving Marco Pierin as the husband a vehicle of great dramatic scope, both dancers rose to the occasion giving a moving and an extraordinary performance. The effective Corps weaved through the ballet giving a background of true Spanish peasant ritual that provokes and enhances the tale to a tragic end. There is no doubt that Miss Savignano is one of Italy's best known dramatic Dancers and the role of Yerma will no doubt be a welcome addition to her wide repertoire. Bravo La Scala Ballet and Bravo choreographer Domy Reiter-Soffer”.

“ Luciana Savignano danced the title role in the ballet “Yerma” at La Scala Ballet Performance last night to a triumphant acclaim by the audience. Choreography by Domy Reiter-Soffer to score by George Crumb based on Fredrico Gracia Lorca play.
Reiter-Soffer's distilled and effective choreography is extremely pungent with dramatic dynamics that tells the story in a direct manner and to the point, leaving the dancers bare to the bone so to speak, to dance the intricate steps with extraordinary theatrical surprises and imagination.
Yerma's husband Juan refuses to give her the only thing she longs for, a child, Marco Pierin dances the role with conviction and powerful strength his solo and duet with Yerma is full of nuances of a couple trapped in marriage that is desperate and have no way out. Frustrated she eventually part takes in a pagan fertility ritual held by Delores (Sorceress) introducing her son Victor in an erotic lyrical seduction duet, that later both Toreros and other women take part in a frenzied ritual. When Juan (Pierin) discovers Yerma he confronts her, a compelling and exciting duet ensues when she finally in a crazed moment of sheer panic, she kills him.
The moving end when Yerma rocks her dead husband in the Hammock believing it to be her child was most poignant and at the same time tragic. Yerma is tour de force for the company and definitely a wonderful addition to Luciana Savignano's extraordinary ability as a dramatic actress-dancer and a true artist”.
